The new expansion and renovation at St Vincent Infirmary Medical Center provided a renovation and expansion of the operating room suite within the existing hospital, and a 67,290 square foot addition to accommodate a new emergency department, critical care unit, and future shell space for radiology expansion.
In order to provide a more efficient and less stressful work environment for the medical staff and patients, the emergency department design was “zoned” in concentric “rings.” The interior ring accommodates the ED medical staff. The middle ring houses the exam, trauma, and support spaces, while the outer ring is used for patient / visitor circulation into exam, trauma and waiting spaces.
